A few ideas

Post by -Dave- » 13 Apr 2003, 07:00

could we have the 30second post rule put doewn to like 15 or somit?

and can we have more space in our inbox for private mail, so we can keep much larger amounts of pm's,

also can we be aloud to delete our own thread that we have started, like if you accidently start 2 by mistack etc etc.

and can we have the abiltiy to edit the title of our threads incase we want to change it.

see what you can do dude :thumb:

reasonable suggestions but there are problems with doing this,

the limit (30 seconds) is there to prevent people just going to each topic and posting crap, like, 1 word, so people should take more than 30 seconds thinking about what they are going to put. Also, the more posts, the more bandwidth used... the more bandwidth used, the more expensive the site is to run, and since no one helps kev out with the fees, i'm afraid thats gonna have to be as low as possible

more msgs, again means more band width, however, i think that there is plenty of space anyway, it's not like you get many msgs on here that you need to keep, and there are instant msgs as well.

It wouldn't be that hard to rewrite some of the php pages, edit.php specifically so that there was an option to rename the thread that the post is in. After all it's already checked your logon to let you edit your post.

I can almost guarantee that it's either using either a session variable or a cookie variable to store the username, or at least a flag that tells it your logged in.

Using that It'd be pretty simple to just have the thread name appear above the username when you edit a post if you created it.

Saying all that tho with out looking at the php it'd be hard be 100% sure.

I take it the forum was free from some where? got the website address?

Kev won't remember that, and he cna't re write ity, he hasn't got time. and he says it's a pain.

he found the forum, and he also found stuff to add to it. so it's better.

Also,

http://www.phpbb.com/

that is easily the best php board about. It blows the rest out of the water. Plus it's pretty simple to set up and it's free.

Just a thought, i expect if you look on there site or the forums some one will have written some database conversion code to convert the back end of this board to run with phpbb (not knowing what this board is i couldn't say for sure tho). That way you wouldn't loose any of the users or any of there posts.

Actually i just had a dig

http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php

thats got a converter for Burning Board 1.1.1e, now that 1.2 is out you'll probably find an update sooner or later.

Saying that tho it'll probably still work.
