so then, this 'baby p' business

Post by metal_dave » 16 Nov 2008, 22:07

apparently the guy cut the baby's fingertips off with a stanley knife because it made it easier to pull his fingernails out with pliers.

i really honestly want these people dead. it's times like this i really wish i could do something about people like this. like become a copper. only i couldn't do that, because i'd end up bludgeoning somebody to death with my truncheon. absolute fucking animals. and knowing this ridiculous country, they'll do about five years in prison (where they'll be held seperately from the other criminals who would also want to kill them) and then they'll be relocated in a nice flat somewhere with a new identity. at the expense of joe public. it's a fucking farce is what it is.

cue the 'HUR HUR U REED THE MALE' dickheads.

i don't, for the record.

What, finding unsubstantiated claims? Yeah, great.

Obviously what happened was appalling and inexcusable, the people involved should have received far lengthier jail terms and mistakes were evidently repeatedly made by the council and social services and things need to be changed to ensure that this doesn't happen again. I won't be jumping on the media driven hand wringing tragedy porn bandwagon.

Seeing as how you didn't link to or mention the Daily Hatemail, I'm not really sure why you felt compelled to mention it right at the end of your post like that.

i especially like the fact that gordon brown brushed it aside in parliament.

From the Guardian:

Brown replied: "I believe I speak for the whole country when I say that people are not only shocked and saddened, but horrified and angered by what they have seen reported about what happened to an innocent 17-month-old boy.

"Every child is precious and every child is unique. Every child should have the benefit of support and protection both from their parents and the authorities that be.

"This tragedy that has arisen because of a violence and torture of a young child, where three have already been found guilty, raises serious questions we have to address."

Brown said that Laming has now been asked to produce a new report considering what needed to be done to improve child protection throughout the country. And Brown said that the full report into the affair from Haringey had only arrived on the desk of the children's secretary, Ed Balls, this morning.

"It is now for the government to take action and we will make a decision about what procedures and processes we will adopt in relation to Haringey," he said.

Sounds like a fairly reasonable response to me. No great wailing and gnashing of teeth, of course, but then I think we can safely leave that to the tabloids.

I wonder whether this would be as horrific if it had been an adult

of course it wouldn't, adults can defend themselves, at least to some extent. if somebody tried throwing me around by my throat i'd have something to say about it. it's hard to fight back when you're seventeen months old and malnourished.

didn't like it then? given that it's one of the finest examples of topical satire from the last 15 years or so and not surrealism.

i'm just trying to understand what it takes for something to not be student comedy.

although it's nice that a thread about a baby being tortured to death can be turned into a debate about ten year old comedy shows.

Yeah fucking hell, at least make it about a more recent comedy show, like Tittybangbang or something like that.

Don't like Tittybangbang. Typical swimming pool attendant humour.
