New Snare advise please.

Post by filsatan » 20 Nov 2008, 15:03

Hello folks

I am looking to buy a new snare at the end of the month, probably happy to pay upto £300

I want a loud bugger with plenty of crack (not the drug) that will really cut through. Something that will sound at home in a very loud rock (not metal) band (please refer to the myspace page for reference).

I have been looking at Spaun snares as they seem to be loud as hell and are pretty well priced, but any advise would be great!

This is the one i am looking at at the moment....

You could probably get a second hand vented OCDP for £300.

Get one with as many plies as you can afford - put an evans power centre top dot batter head on it, put a matrix 40 strand snare wire on it, tune top head high and bottom head on the slack side of natural and whack it hard with a heavyish stick.

There's your crack.

Maybe you should just buy this.....save yourself the hassle (because the snare already sounds amazing) and get the rest of a nice kit as well.

Oh forgot to say - if you want a good rock sound dont get a snare under 7 inches deep.

I really can't recommend this drum enough, such a vaste array of sounds i can get from it. This drum would suite any style of music, if you are looking for a new snare, do yourself a favor and check this one out folks. Mine has been broken in properly now and sounds amazing. :woohoo:
