I think that some people would find it difficult to grow 'real' dreads, their hair might be too fine, too greasy, I dunno, too... something. And I believe everyone should have the right to dreads, should they want to.

As an aside, big dave came to see Jen in the bank yesterday, and after he left giving her a hug, one of her colleagues said to her "I didn't think you would be friends with someone like that... you're much to prim." Make of that what you will. I was kinda lost for words when Jen told me that.

As i walk away,
I look over my shoulder,
To see what i'm leaving behind,
Pieces of puzzles and wishes on eyelashes failed.

to elaborate: to be honest, these days a dread is a dread, they have originated from multiple cultures and have also been integrated into parts of western culture, so i don't think it's worth arguing about.

however, if we did wanna get all pretentious and elitist about it, the most likely argument would be that the 'real' dreads would be the ones that belonged to actual rastafarians, hindus, indian shames, regardless of whether they were formed naturally or helped along. however i don't take that viewpoint as culture is in a constant state of flux and evolution.

I am  and this was obviously another stupid post . I can fully believe some people think dread people are wronguns in some way, when I had dreads people tried selling me weed alot in the street or tried to buy it off me. dreads = you get stereo typed as a stoner or some sort of drugs comsumer . I guess its probably true a fairly large % of the time.

I allways have had a liking of the women with nice long natural dreads looks tribal I like tribal things init

i agree. dreads are hot.

you can't really resent the automatic stereotyping as a weed smoker given the integral part that weed plays in rastafarian culture.

that's exactly why i got rid of my dreads!! people found me attractive, purely because I had dreads. Superficial bastards. I want someone to find me attractive because of who i am, not how skanked up my hair is.

true enough jo, it's superficial to be attracted to someone soley beacuse of their hair, but you can't eliminate all traces of physical attractiveness just so you know people aren't being superficial, else we'd all go round wearing sacks with shaved heads. surely a nice well-rounded person goes for the whole package anyway?

true, true, but it did piss me off. People would automatically assume i was a funky modern lady.

Which, of course I am!! But they don't know that. I don't like being labelled.

Hair is dead anyway, so therefore dreads are dead...
Mirror mirror can you tell
If they are kneeling in confession or if they just fell?
The mirror looks back and it knows damn well
It's really hard living when you're living with yourself.

Dreads are jokes.

I'm getting fairly bored of mine now but i gotta have something to swing at gigs wot wot.

I do get the odd ridiculous/stereotypical comment regarding drug use etc but if your going to have (different) hair you have to put up with the splendid general public of the world.

The one thing that does annoy me though is when i get the odd black chap asking me why i have them done as if i don't deserve to have my hair like it.

Most comments from jamaicans and black people in general are all good mind.

So in conclusion...

yeah no problem of course I will if its possible. I have no idea where I will be in the world when I meet this person, the key I think is living really true to oneself and not looking for the person as they wil notice you for the way you are also there is no rush whatsoever to find her as I believe you should let things come in there own time naturally.

peace
