especially large tattoos (i.e. sleeves etc covering entire sections of your body) and extreme or very noticeable piercings.

discuss.

probably is in a lot of cases, same as tit jobs, tummy tucks and trowling on make-up.

If people can't be happy with who they are and what they have it certainly hints at self-esteem issues, although I expect that some people just like having big bits of art on them.

I got mine because it makes playing with my boobs more fun! :suck:

I liked my boobs even before I got it done but hey if you can make it even better to play with than why not. My lip is just because it looks nice, it wouldn't bother me if it was there or not, I certainly wouldn't be crying myself to sleep because I didn't have any confidence without it.

Also what Joe said.
Mirror mirror can you tell

The mirror looks back and it knows damn well
It's really hard living when you're living with yourself.

it's an interesting point. and probably true in most cases. i've noticed a hell of a lot of super skinny guys getting sleeves and chest pieces, who without their ink would get no attention from girls (that's not meant to sound mean, but i think it's true - get a geek tattooed and he's hotter)

but i like to think a lot of the time people also get tattoos becuase they've thought of a wicked idea and want it tattooed on them.

me and becky and starby are going to holland next april to get tattooed. a-woo-hooooo.

Bollocks is it.

Also, that lass has like a zillion piercings, but I read an article on her tonight and apart from the obvious SHITE jewellery (check out her eyebrows) she also apparently cleans them all with hydrogen peroxide.
Brilliance.

Also, does she not realise she looks like a twat? (and to be honest, I don't say that a lot, especially when it comes to body mods).

I don't think body modification is necessarily a sign of low self esteem at all. I think when someone is at a stage where they think having a tattoo or piercing may make them appear "cool" or "fun" then that's not good.
(sorry I am tired so I may not be making too much sense and my 'mind dictionary' can't find the right words for me).

I don't have any tattoos and I don't plan on getting any. This is purely because I think my skin's lovely as it is, covered in nature's tattoos, (moles).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Some people think being inked to the max and having metal hanging out of any possible hole in their skin is beautiful. Others think covering their faces in make up and putting peroxide in their hair is beautiful.

For me, no matter what people do to the outsides of their bodies, it can't change the true nature of their soul, which is where their true beauty lies and shines through. (apologies for the hippy slant on that one).

I reckon it depends on the individual person, i wouldn't go saying that everyone in the world who has had something done has it for no reason but self esteem issues.

I recently got a tattoo of my mums birth-death date going around my arm so that obviously has personal value and not something i got just for the sake of having a tattoo or to be noticed.

That being said alot of scene ponces are getting full on arm sleeves done because oli sykes(bring me the horizon) has them so that's clearly fucking gay.

It is a valid point though but you gotta admit tattoos do look pretty wicked, that's if they are designed/done well ofcourse.

Not at all, I just think in most cases (and definitely there are SOME where it's self esteem issues) it's more about decorating yourself, celebrating yourself, etc.
